Margaret Fogelsong

Margaret Fogelsong was born on August 15, 1847 at Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a daughter of Chas. and Polly M. Fogelsong. When a girl of eleven she came across the prairies in a covered wagon to the state of Iowa, first settling in Appanoose county and two years later she came to Madison county and has continuously lived in the county ever since. Fifty-three years of the time have been spent on the present homestead. On April 6, 1864, she was married to Thomas Croft. Three children, Mary Ann, William C. and Katie Irene were born to this union. She was a kind and loving mother and a great admirer of her friends and neighbors and always so pleased to have them seated about her. She enjoyed them so much and was so thoughtful of them and forgetting herself, even in times of deepest trials and suffering that they might be spared any extra exertions or worries. She became a Christian in her early life and has always been true to its cause and principles. She was first a member of the Christian church at De Soto and later removed her membership to the Presbyterian church at Earlham. Her last sickness was of short duration but of intense suffering. She bore the pain with great patience until death relieved her on Sabbath forenoon at the age of 80 years, nine months and twenty-five days. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Peter Bock officiating and interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
