Opal L. Duff

Sandy resident Opal L. Duff died in a Gresham care facility on Thursday, March 11, 1999. She was 91.

She was born to Harry S. and Minnie (Haxton) Beeson in Earlham, Iowa on Aug. 7, 1907. She was raised in Iowa where she completed her education.

On Dec. 11, 1922, she was married to Robert Errol Duff in Earlham. They began their family in Iowa and in 1927 moved to Flint, Mich., where Opal dedicated her time to raising their children.

In 1944 the family moved to Hood River. After she was divorced, she began working as a seamstress at Anderson's Apparel and later as a pharmacist assistant at Kerr Drug.

After retiring in 1969, she lived in Damascus and John Day prior to moving to Sandy three years ago.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Hood River and enjoyed spending time sewing, cooking and reading.

Surviving are daughters, Dortha L. Hoppe of John Day and Illomay VanOrsow of Sandy; sister, Alta M. Tice of Caldwell, Idaho; brother Wilbur Beeson of Earlham; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-children. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis A. Rose in 1997.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Cancer Society in her memory. Sandy Funeral Home handled arrangements.
