Roy D. Payton, died of a heart ailment May 6, 1961 at his home 1545-28th St. Des Moines, Iowa. Interment was at Van Meter cemetery.
He was born on a farm near Van Meter, Iowa, January 8, 1886. He was the son of John and Lottie Payton, the youngest of eight children. His early life was spent in and near the Van Meter area.
In 1908 Roy married Pearl Moore and to that union four children were born-three of whom died in infancy. Willard B. Payton, the surviving son, lives in Des Moines.
Mr. and Mrs. Payton spent 25 years on a farm five miles southeast of Earlham. He was active in the Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge No. 568 and Eastern Star in Earlham. He moved to Des Moines in 1941 and has been retired since 1951. There he was a faithful member of the Westminster United Presbyterian church.
He is survived by his widow, Pearl, his son Willard, four grandchildren and one great grandchild; also his sister, Mrs. Della Thornton of Van Meter and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
