DELBERT MULLINS DIED AT 88 YEARS

Resident of Madison and Dallas Counties for 70 Years

Delbert Mullins, a resident of Madison and Dallas counties for over 70 years died at a West Des Moines Nursing home Sunday June 12, following an attack of pneumonia. He was 88 years of age.

He had been moved to West Des Moines recently after being at the Shoemaker Nursing home in Winterset for about four years.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dalton of Glendale, Calif., Mable Mullins of Lakeview, Mrs. Garnet Switzer of Van Meter and Mrs. Hazel Reinert of Earlham; four sons, Dale Mullins of Winterset, Gerald Mullins of Earlham, Earl Mullins of Adel and Russell Mullins of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother Martin Mullins of Adel; and a sister, Mrs. E. W. Witmer of Adel.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Methodist church last Wednesday in charge of the Revs. C. C. Latta and C. A. Crouse. Burial was made in the Otterman cemetery southeast of Adel.

OBITUARY

Delbert Mullins, son of Gordon Lambert and Nancy Mullins was born at Fort Levenworth, Kansas, August 13, 1860 and died at West Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 88 years, nine months and 29 days.

When a small boy he moved with his parents to Jasper county, Iowa.

In 1880 the family moved to a farm three miles south of Adel.

On October 7, 1888 he was united in marriage with Susie Smithson of Adel and they began their life house keeping on a farm northwest of Adel. Their more than fifty years together were spent on farms in Dallas and Madison counties. Upon retiring from farming they moved to Earlham where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 7, 1938. Mrs. Mullins passed away November 7, 1941.

To this union were born nine children. One daughter, Mrs. Ethel Hester died October 25, 1944.

Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by three sisters: Laura Tennis, Iva Cook and Belle Wilson and five brothers: Ed, Sherman, George, Thomas and Pleas.

The deceased leaves to mourn his death four daughters: Mrs. Myrtle Dalton of Glendale, California; Miss Mable Mullins of Lake View; Mrs. Garnet Switzer of Van Meter; and Mrs. Hazel Reinert of Earlham; and four sons: Dale of Winterset; Gerald of Earlham; Earl of Adel; and Russell of Los Angeles, California. One brother, Martin I. Mullins of Adel; one sister, Mrs. E. A. Witmer of Adel; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Mullins was a member of the Earlham Methodist church. He was a kind and loving father and until recently lived a full and active life. He will be greatly missed by his relatives and many friends.
