Mrs. Joe Manders

Hulda Neal Lanning was born May 6th, 1864 in Andrew county, Mo., near Savannah, and departed this life June 11th, 1931, at the age of 67 years, five months and five days.

When nine years of age she came with her parents to Dallas County, Iowa and has resided in Dallas and Madison Counties the remaining years.

On October 15th, 1884, she was united in marriage with Joseph Manders. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive her. One girl, Mabel died at the age of eight years.

One of a large Christian family, she was taught early in life to sacrifice for others and never has the lesson, learned so young in life, been forgotten. She was always eager and willing to make any sacrifice if by so doing her friends or loved ones might be benefited.

In her journey through life, she has lived in many communities, and has always made a host of sincere friends who in her last illness have graciously remembered her with kind words and deeds. It is under the circumstances as such illness as hers that one truly realizes and cherishes true friends. Reared in a devout home, her life has always been given to the Saviour, and she remained a true Christian through all the years of hardship, sickness and death.

She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Adair, Iowa, having transferred her membership from the Winterset church early in 1930. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. at Winterset.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Joseph Manders and five children: Clarence Manders of Adair, Mrs. Carrie Addy of Van Meter, Frank Manders of Waukee, Mrs. Josephine Niendorf of DeSoto and Mrs. Eva Rogan of Winterset. Besides these are eight grandchildren, three brothers, J. G. Lanning of Van Meter, M. E. Lanning of Adel, William Lanning of Culverston, Nebraska; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Henry of Van Meter, Mrs. Ruth Watrous of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Martha White of New Market and many other relatives and a host of friends. The world is a better place for such as these having lived in it.
