Page 7Death of Zebulon Brinson
Zebulon Brinson, who has long been a sufferer from that dread disease, cancer, passed away last Thursday. He had been ill for eighteen months and confined to his bed about half that time. His sufferings have been terrible, and death came as a merciful release. The devotion of his two daughters, aided by attentions from his comrades of the G.A.R. made his last days as comfortable as possible.
He was a native of Indiana, and had nearly reached the age of 72 years at the time of his death. He came to this county about 40 years ago, and for 25 years had made his home in Douglas township. He was a union soldier during the war of the rebellion being a member of company -- in Iowa.
Mr. Brinson's wife died about 37 years ago. Five children were born to them, of whom only two daughters surviving. The eldest resides in California, and the younger is the wife of R. C. Breeden, of Omaha. Both daughters and his son-in-law, Mr. Breeden were with him at the time of his death. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, are some numbered among his living descendants.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock last Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic.
Though gone from among us, his example of an honorable life, fidelity to his country in the hour of need, and fortitude under suffering will not be forgotten.
Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
