Page 7Mrs. Adaline Carman, with her husband, J. W. Carman, and their family of young children, came from Menard county, Illinois in the fall of 1868, purchased and established a home near the center of South township, a mile south of where Hanley is now located since which time they have continued to reside, have improved and beautified their home, reared their children to usefulness and endeared themselves to their neighbors.
During the intervening years from then to the present this good lady by her intelligence, industry and Christian qualities earned and enjoyed the love, respect and confidence of an extensive circle of friends who join with her bereaved family and so far as possible share their loss and sorrow.
Although not unlooked for, her death which occurred on last Monday, May 1 at 1 o'clock p.m., cast a shadow over many hearts in this community. This most excellent woman was a faithful member of the M. E. church, a loyal worker in the WRC, of which she was the past president and one whose life work was in the interest in the betterment of society. As has been said of many who have gone before, she was worthy to live and prepared to die.
Her funeral occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Services conducted by her pastor, Rev. Rarick in their church in Hanley. Burial in the cemetery at St. Charles in the presence of a large attendance of sorrowing friends who so far as possible shared the grief of the bereaved relatives.
