Mrs. Hattie Johnston Dies

An illness of five years ended in the death of Mrs. Hattie Johnston on August 3 at the age of 77 years. She had spent most of her life in and around Winterset.

Mrs. Johnston was born Susan Harriet Hobson, daughter of James and Sarah Rutherford Hobson, in Indiana on April 29, 1858. On March 18, 1886, she married Addie Harrell of Winterset. They made their home on a farm near here for two years, until Mr. Harrell died. She then moved to town, and at intervals following she married William Pooler, Albert Bolin, and finally Mr. Johnston.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Women’s Relief corps and the Methodist Episcopal church in Winterset. In the latter, she was active in the Women’s Bible class.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jenney Cooley of Winterset and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday from Ramsey-Richards funeral home under the direction of the Rev. W. W. Benzinger of the M. E. church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
