WILLIAM L. VAN WERDEN, Lincoln, NE

William L. "Bill" Van Werden, 74, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died December 26, 2007 in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Winterset. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, December 30, at Ochiltree Funeral Service with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Madonna Rehabilitation Center Foundation (5401 South St., Lincoln, NE 68506) or the Capital Humane Society (2320 Park Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68502).

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Lincoln, NE; his children, Charles VanWerden (Jill) of Petoskey, MI, Laura (VanWerden) Hughes (Roger) of Robbinsville, NJ and Paul VanWerden (Diane) of Valley, NE; six grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence VanWerden (Dottie) of Osceola and James VanWerden (Sue) of Adel; a sister, Gretchen (VanWerden) Otto (Nelson) of Minnetonka, MN; an uncle, Bill Parish (McGee) of Moscow, ID and many nieces and nephews.

BILL VAN WERDEN, NEBRASKA

William L. “Bill” Van Werden, 74, of Lincoln, Neb., died Dec. 26, 2007, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 31, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military honors performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

Bill Van Werden was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Winterset to Charles and Virginia (Parish) Van Werden. He was a graduate of Winterset High School and later attended the University of Iowa. His marriage to Sylvia Bartleson took place Oct. 11, 1958, in Chicago, Ill. In 1967, he and his family moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he served as a sales manager for Lincoln Tour and Travel. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the American Legion and Sowers Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons, Charles Van Werden of Petoskey, Mich., and Paul Van Werden of Valley, Neb.; one daughter, Laura (Van Werden) Hughes of Robbinsville, N.J.; two brothers, Lawrence Van Werden of Osceola and James Van Werden of Adel; a sister, Gretchen (Van Werden) Otto of Minnetonka, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
