Departed this life in Winterset on the 24th day of March, aged 87 years. He had been in poor health for years.
He was born in Lee county, Tenn., Sept. 22, 1818, moved to Washington county, Ind. when 3 years old. Was married to Miss Erie (Mary) Fleener, of Brown county, Ind. in 1839. Nine children were born to them, six of whom are still living. He moved to Missouri in 1841, where his wife died, he then married Miss Nancy Davis, who lived but a short time. He came to Madison county, Iowa in 1862, was married in 1869 to Maranda D. Smith who survives him.
Deceased was an active member of the M. E. church in Missouri until the organization to which he belonged was broken up by the war of the Rebellion. Deceased was well respected by all who knew him.
