Hannah Patton Day

Hannah Patton was born in Morgan county, Ohio, May 22, 1820 and died in Winterset April 3d, 1905. She was married to Joseph Talbott July 25, 1838. To them were born three children, E. H. Talbott who lives in New York City, Anna, wife of J. W. Payton & Phebe wife of J. J. Davies for many years editor of the Madisonian. Mrs. Davies died in Winterset in 1864.

The Talbotts came to Winterset in 1857, and Joseph, the husband and father died the same year. Some years after his death Mrs. Talbott married John Day and for a number of years they made their home in Indianapolis. After the death of Mr. Day, Mrs. Day again moved to Winterset and excepting a few years spent in Indianapolis, she has lived in Winterset since 1857.

Mrs. Day was raised a Quaker, of the old school. Her life gave evidence of a true Christian experience. She was remarkably devoted to her home ties and was generally beloved by her relatives and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held from the late home on Court Ave. on Wed. afternoon.

Death of Hannah Day

Mrs. Hannah Day died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Payton, on Monday at the advanced age of eighty-five years. She had been sick most of the winter and had suffered greatly.

Mrs. Day was born in Morgan county, Ohio, May 22nd, 1820. She married Joseph Talbott in 1838 and moved to Winterset in 1857, her husband dying a few years thereafter. She was the mother of three children, H. E. Talbott, of New York, Mrs. Anna Payton, of this place and Mrs. J. J. Davies, formerly a resident of Winterset.

She was laid to rest Monday in the Winterset cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. R. Marquis.
