Ray Seldon Ely

The home of Mr. & Mrs. H. D. Ely has been saddened by the death of their oldest son, Ray Seldon Ely, who died on Monday the 27th after a two week illness from peritonitis.

Seldon as he was best known, was born near Winterset Jan. 1st 1888 and was a little past 17 years of age. He was a member of the sophomore high school class and was a general favorite with classmates and teachers.

A few days prior to his illness converted in the meetings then in progress at the M. E. church and leaves to his bereaved kinfolk and friends the consolation of a christian experience, which teaches us that the grave is but the beginning of the greater Life beyond where we shall be reunited with our loved ones gone before.

Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. W. Matheny, pastor of the M. E. Church. The Winterset high school attended in a body and the pall bearers were chosen from the Sunday school class of which Seldon was a member.

The floral tributes and sincere expressions of grief manifested on every hand are, in part, an evidence of the sympathy freely extended to the parents, brothers and sisters bereft by the loss of a loved son and brother.
