Eliza J. Welty was born in Linn county in 1851 and died at Macksburg March 12, 1919. She came to Madison county in an early day and has lived here almost continuously since. She was united in marriage to Emmanuel Welty June 8, 1867.
To this union were born eleven children, of whom six survive her. They are Jessie Chilcote of Hillsdale, Wyo., C. M. Welty of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Flora Harpole of Macksburg; Ed Welty of Lorimor; Lee and Vern Welty, now in the U.S. army in France. Her husband preceded her in death 10 years ago last May; also five children; Elmer Welty, Nettie Welty, Mrs. Lillie Johnson and two in infancy. She has 19 living grandchildren and one brother at Cedar Rapids.
Interment was made at the Welty cemetery, Webster Township. Short services were conducted at the home by Rev. G. T. Andrews of the M. E. church.
