Death of Mrs. McDole

Died, Mrs. Conrad McDole at her home in Winterset, Saturday, Sept. 27th, 1890.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, and many friends gathered, some from abroad, to pay the last tribute of respect to their old friend and neighbor. The text for the sermon was one of her own choosing, 2 Kings, 2-1: “Thus saith the Lord, set your house in order, for thou shalt die and not live.”

All who knew her can testify that the admonition of this text was the controlling motion of her life, and a fitting reminder to those left behind. For twenty-seven years she has been a great sufferer, yet with great patience and cheerfulness she endured all upheld by the Christian hope. At the age of sixteen she gave her heart to God and united with the Baptist Church, and for more than sixty years has by word and example striven to glorify her maker, and now she has entered into the rest and reward of God’s servant.

Mrs. McDole’s maiden name was Rebecca Bycorn. She was born in West Virginia February 25th, 1814. In 1830 she came to Ohio with her parents, and was married to Conrad McDole in 1836. In 1839 they moved to Indiana, and to Iowa in 1849, where they have since remained.

Seven children were born to them, five of whom are now living.

A brother, four children and a number of grand children were present at the funeral, and shared the sorrow and bereavement of the aged father. Much sympathy was felt for Father McDole, as was manifest by the floral tributes and the many little efforts of kindly attention.

The floral pillow was quite beautiful and was strikingly suggestive of her present rest as compared with the years of pain and unrest. The family appreciate and are very thankful for the kindness of friends in this their hour of sorrow.
