Marjorie Danforth Singer, 95, died Dec. 8, 2007, at the Stratford Court Assisted Living Center, attended by Vitas Hospice and immediate family.
Marjorie was born in Winterset Oct. 3, 1912, the daughter of Alfred and Mabel Danforth of Winterset, whose families go back to the beginnings of Madison County. She graduated from Winterset High Schol in 1930 and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa. She worked as a fashion illustrator in Des Moines for a number of years until she met her future husband, Morton "Steve" Singer while she was on vacation in New Orleans and he on leave from the military during World War II. They married soon after the war and moved to New York and then New Jersey where Marjorie was a freelance fashion illustrator for many major department stores. They retired to Delray Beach, Fla., where she enjoyed golf, traveling, and joining her husband and friends at the Elks Club.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Steven Danforth Singer, and wife Deborah of Pompano Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Chelsea and Monica; and one great-grandchild, Ayla.
Marjorie was cremated and her and her husband's ashes will be spread in the Atlantic Ocean by the immediate family in a private service as they wished.
