Lee Cox, 85, of Winterset, died Dec. 16, 2007, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Visitation wil be from 1-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 19), with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural St. Charles with military honors performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.
Lee Cox was born April 24, 1922, in Madison County to Casper and Hannah (Palmer) Cox. His marriage to Joan Janes took place Jan 25, 1948, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Lee worked as a welder and in construction; he also farmed. He retired from Fawn Engineering following 12 years of service.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Chew and Burla Beaman; and a brother, Alverta "Al" Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Winterset; three sons, Harry Cox, Gene Cox and Marvin Cox, all of Winterset; one daughter, Dixie Grimes of Des Moines; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial may be directed to the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
