Obituary Notice

JORDAN—Died at the residence of his son-in-law, F. H. Evans in Winterset, Iowa, at 9 o’clock Sabbath evening, Feb. 9.

He was born in Manchester England, Oct. 25, 1803, went with his parents to Providence, R. I., in 1812, thence to Cincinnatti, Ohio, in 1832, where he spent a good many years and was married there in 1836 to Jennie Starkey. They with their family came to Iowa City in 1855 where they resided until 1868 when they moved to Brooklyn where they remained until the death of Mrs. Jordan, which took place Sept. 10, 1878. After which Mr. Jordan has made his home with his daughters who were with him during his long painful illness which was so patiently borne. He was a member of Co. G., 47th Iowa Infantry. His remains were accompanied to Brooklyn by his daughters and the funeral obsequies were conducted by Revs. Judd and Jones at the residence of Mr. A. Baner, where a number of old friends of the family assembled Tuesday afternoon to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. The remarks of Rev. Judd were very touching and sympathetic and all present deeply felt the solemnity of the occasion and gave their sympathy to the three daughters who so sadly took leave of their father to whom they were devotedly attached. Mr. Jordan was a good citizen, a kind neighbor and was respected and loved by a large circle of friends. He was tenderly laid at rest in Brooklyn cemetery by loving hands beside his companion, who preceded him to the other world twelve years ago.---Brooklyn Chronicle.

Note: Burial in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa.
