Obituary

The deceased, Timothy Killam, died March 21st, 1890, in his 73d year. He was born near Hartford, Conn., in 1817. In 1836 he was married to Miss Henrietta Billings, and moved west to Galena, Ill., in about two years. In 1842 he again moved to Clayton county, Iowa, where he resided until the spring of 1868 when they moved to Madison county. In the winter of 1875 Mother Killam died, and in 1877 he was married to Mrs. Sophia Comp. Three years ago this month they moved to Adair county, where they lived at the time of his death.

Father Killam had been a member of the M. E. church for 35 years, and Christian fellowship and sympathy was a source of great strength and comfort to him; especially was this so in the last few years of his life, as they have been years of great suffering. He was very patient and cheerful during all his sufferings, and often expressed a firm trust in his Redeemer, and said he was “just waiting for the dear Savior to call him home.”

Lee Brevities

Mr. Timothy Killam died at his home in Adair county, March 21, aged something over seventy-three years. He has been an invalid for the past three years, and for the last three months was a great sufferer. In his death his wife has lost an affectionate husband; his children, a kind and loving father; his acquaintances, a true friend; the community, a noble, generous, self-sacrificing man. He was a devoted Methodist, and one who lived a life of Christian virtue and kindness that all about him felt and recognized as real goodness. His clearly expressed faith and hope snatched victory from the grave and gave more than an earthly joy to the bleeding hearts of relatives and friends. Obedient to his eft repeated request, his remains were brought to Jefferson township, his old home, for burial. The funeral services occurred on Sunday forenoon, and was one of the most largely attended funerals in the history of the township. The services were conducted by Rev. Jones. His remarks were most beautiful and appropriate, abounding in words of comfort and consolation for the sorrowing friends, and paying a high tribute to the life and character of the deceased. At the conclusion of the services an opportunity was given for the friends to take a last look at the face of one whom they had known and esteemed for so many years, after which the solemn procession was formed and proceeded to the cemetery, where the last sad rites were performed, and the remains of Timothy Killam laid to rest until that great day when the grave shall give up its dead, and the great reunion of friends shall occur which will last throughout eternity.

Note: Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
