Richard C. Burhans, 68, of rural St. Charles died of a heart ailment Nov. 11 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services were held Saturday at Church of the Assumption in Churchville. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery near Churchville.
Mr. Burhans was born in Hartford, Conn. He retired in 1980 as the owner of Coca-Cola bottling companies in Hartford, Miami, Fla., New Orleans, La., and Des Moines. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Lions Club and Madison County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Mae; two sons, Richard Jr. of St. Charles and James of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Gail Reilley of L'ans, Mich., and Janet Wheatly of Cerritos, Calif.; a brother, Ted of East Hartford, Conn.; four sisters, Ada Leveque of Bridgeport, Conn., Marian Hall and Elcie Pie, both of Manchester, Conn., and Ethel Reiff of Lake Helen, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
