Obituary

Mrs. Margaret A. Hindman died Aug. 26, 1889, at her home nine miles southwest of Winterset, in the thirty-ninth year of her age. She was born in Tuscarawas Co., O., in 1850. She leaves a husband and eight children to mourn her loss. She died in the triumphs of that faith she professed for twenty-four years of her life.

The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shuck. During the year 1850 her parents removed to White county, Indiana. In 1857, with her parents, she removed to Clayton county, Iowa. In 1868 she again removed with her parents to Madison county where she resided to the time of her death. On Feb. 18th, 1869 she was united in marriage with S. N. Hindman, the fruit of this union being eight children, of which all are now living, the youngest being a daughter born July 16th, 1889. In her sixteenth year she was converted and became a member of the United Brethren church. Her parents removed out of the bounds of her first choice and she united with the M. E. Church of which she was a faithful member. Her family having removed from the vicinity of the M. E. Church she united with the Evangelical Association in March, 1886, in which she remained a member till the time of her death. The deceased was a devoted wife and mother, and although an almost constant sufferer during the greater part of her life, she was ever ready to testify in behalf of her Lord and Master, or to speak in defense of the cause of Christianity. During her last sickness, though one of great suffering, she frequently bore testimony of her faith in her Lord and Master. On the morning she died she sang that beautiful hymn, “O land of rest, for thee I sigh.” She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, being ever ready to render assistance in sickness, charitable to the poor, giving words of cheer to those in trouble, and an untiring worker in the Sabbath school. She has finished her work and gone to her home where sickness nor pain cannot enter. Her remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of people. The harvest is past, her labors are ended, her work is finished. Be ye also ready, for in an hour ye think not the Son of Man cometh.

“Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep.
From which none ever wake to weep.”

Note: Burial was made in the Wight cemetery.
