Died, at his home in Winterset, Friday evening, August 2, 1889, John B. Kirk, in the 89th year of his age.
J. B. Kirk was born in Nelson county, Ky., in 1801. He lived there till 1838, when he removed to Indiana, where he resided till 1851, at which time he removed to Madison county, Iowa, which was his home till his death.
Mr. Kirk was three times married, each wife bearing him children. His last wife died several years ago. He lived a long life, was an upright, honorable citizen, having the confidence and respect of the community where he resided so many years. The funeral services were held at his late residence Sunday forenoon, after which the remains were taken to the Runkle cemetery, in South township for interment, where also his second and third wives were buried.
In the death of Mr. Kirk, the community loses an honorable citizen who passes away ripe in years, leaving behind a memory green in the minds of children, relatives and friends. The Disciples church of this city loses one of its old-time, substantial members, his family loses a father whose presence, while he was with them, was a blessing to them all.
