OBITUARY.

Mary Ann Stockdale was born in Fayette county, Indiana, Jan. 8, 1835, and died at her home in Patterson, Iowa, March 23d, 1889. In 1852 she was united in marriage to Thomas W. Stiles, and moved in 1860 to Madison county, where she has lived until her death. She shared the trials of a wife at home during the late war, having been left with three small children, while her husband was serving his country. She was the mother of ten children, three of whom died in infancy, the other seven, six sons and one daughter, live to know the loss of mother. She was converted at the age of 15, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which body, she lived a consistent member until the end. Although suffering greatly in her sickness, which only lasted one week, she gave evidence in this as in former life of saving faith in the Lord Jesus, and spoke to her husband of hearing delightful music. With the music in her heart she passed away.

Her funeral was conducted by her pastor, S. W. Lauck, on Sabbath last at 3 o’clock, in Blair’s chapel in the presence of a large congregation, and her remains were laid in the cemetery near that church. An earnest Christian, a faithful wife and a loving mother has passed from among us. May peace be to her ashes and joy to her spirit.
