E. Darlene Glasscock, 92, of Winterset died Nov. 14, 2007, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Darlene Glasscock was born Sept. 6, 1915, to Herbert and Jennie (Goltry) Chickering of Villisca and was a 1934 graduate of Winterset High School. Her marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Roy Glasscock took place Nov. 24, 1937, in Des Moines. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to Goshen, Ind. In 1950, they returned to Winterset. Darlene retired from Farmers & Merchants State Bank following 25 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Susanna Church Circle, Child Welfare Club (past president), Madison County Historical Society, the senior citizens’ bowling team, and several bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Ross Chickering, Harley Chickering, Harry Chickering and Wayne Chickering; and two sisters, Dorothy Chickering and Rose Luedeke.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Glasscock of Indian Head Park, Ill., and Denis Glasscock of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Beverlie Ayoub of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Jim Pierce of Red Oak; two sisters, Janice Butterfield of Peru and Betty Messerschmidt of Des Moines; companion Gene Bass of Winterset; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials will be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel & Funeral Services in Winterset.
