Jesse Lee Coleman, son of Thomas and Emily Coleman was born in Illinois on December 5, 1875 and passed away at Boone, Iowa, on June 3, 1935; age 59 years, five months and 28 days. At an early age he, with his parents moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he grew to young manhood. He received his education in Springfield and Missouri Valley College.

He was united in marriage June 27, 1900 with Rosa Lee Letterman.

On February 28, 1903 he was ordained minister of the gospel by the Cherokee Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Wagner, Indian Territory. Soon after he began work on the mission field in Coweta and Broken Arrow in the Creek tribe territory. While doing mission work he organized many new churches which have since become strong congregations. In 1906, following the uniting of the Cumberland and the Presbyterian churches, Mr. Coleman became associated with the fellowship of the Witchita, (Wichita), Kansas, Presbytery. In organizing one new church near Witchita he received 126 members into the church at one time.

Leaving the mission field in 1912, Mr. Coleman accepted a call in Illinois. He served in various towns in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa. In April he accepted the pastorate in Earlham. The unexpected failure of his health prevented him from carrying out the many plans for the local parish although he made every attempt possible to gain strength to carry on the work. The only affiliation he had outside of the church was with the Masonic Lodge which he joined in Witchita, Kansas, in 1906.

Mr. Coleman leaves to mourn his wife and partner who always shared his labors for the master, Mrs. Rosa Lee Coleman; three daughters, Mrs. Gerald Ganser of Boston, Mrs. Emil Grove of Boone; his mother, Mrs. Emily Coleman of Springfield, Mo., brother Joe and sister Mrs. N. J. Johnson, both of Bakersfield, Calif., and sisters Mrs. Elmer Martin of Los Angeles and Mrs. Harve McMichael of Argonia, Kansas.
