Death of Mrs. Cornelia E. Kerr.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." is the promise of "Our Father," given to light the dark shadows death ever brings to bereaved hearts. The children and friends of Mrs. Kerr, whose death occured the 18th inst., can rest on this divine assurance.

Mrs. Cornelia Kerr, daughter of J. W. and Maria H. Hutchinson, was born April 10th, 1829. Was married to Mr. J. J. Kerr, November 4th, 1851, near Bellair, Ohio. Of their three children, Eugene H., John C. and Laura S., two now remain.

In 1864 they moved to Washington, where John died at the age of 17 years. In 1878 they moved to Winterset, and Mr. Kerr was for years one of our prominent business men, also an Elder in the United Presbyterian church; he died several years ago, in the hope of a blessed immortality.

Mrs. Kerr was a graduate of Washington Seminary Pennsylvania, and a cultured, refined lady, which with her tender sympathy, and heartfelt christianity, gave a charmed presence to her cheerful home, and endeared her to old and young, who alike mourn her loss.

Her peaceful, quiet "falling asleep" after months of suffering borne with a patience and fortitude seldom seen, was a beautiful ending of a lovely life, but it came so quickly that before Eugene and his wife could reach here from Des Moines, "the silver cord was seen loosed and the golden bowl broken, and the spirit returned unto God who gave it." The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow. The mother has left precious memories for her children.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Monday evening and the remains taken to Des Moines for burial on Tuesday morning.
