Page 3An Old Citizen Gone.
Mr. Nathaniel Anderson, familiarly known as "Uncle Natty," one of the best known of the old citizens of Winterset, died at his residence Friday last, after a brief illness. He was born in Adams county, Ohio, February 18, 1819; hence at the time of his decease lacking but thirty-five days of being sixty-nine years of age. Before he was one year old his parents removed to Hancock county, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. In that county, on the 19th day of January, 1843, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Loehr, who survives him, her age being sixty-four.
During the year 1846 they removed to Knox county, Illinois, where they resided till 1855, when they removed to this, Madison county, Iowa. For eleven years after coming to this county they resided on a farm eleven miles southwest of Winterset. In 1866 they removed to town and occupied the house which has ever since been their home, he working since that time at his trade, blacksmithing.
To Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have been born eight children, of whom but three are now living: Mrs. Mima Strong, of Indianapolis, Ind., Mr. G. F. Anderson and Mrs. Nora Shultz, of this city. The other five children died during early life.
Mr. Anderson was an honored member of the Odd Fellows lodge of this city, having but recently been installed Noble Grand. The funeral took place from the late residence Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of that order.
In the death of Mr. Anderson Winterset and Madison county loses one of its most honored citizens, the family a kind husband and father. Our kindest sympathies are with the bereaved friends.
