ELMER ALLEN DIES HERE AT 80 YEARS

Death Occurred Suddenly on Tuesday of Heart Ailment

Elmer Allen, a life-long resident of the Winterset community and well known here through his years of service as a county and city employee, died suddenly Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Hildebrand of Winterset.

Mr. Allen was 80 years of age and had been in delicate health for some time, due to a heart ailment.

His entire life was spent in and near Winterset. He was born near here July 8, 1867, the son of Isaac and Lisa Allen. His early life was spent in farming. After moving into Winterset, he was employed as a teamster, in county road work and in the Winterset streets department, for many years.

As a young man he was married to Mary Landers. They were the parents of five sons, and one daughter. One son, Fred Allen preceded the father in death. The wife and mother died in 1936.

Surviving are four sons, Charlie Allen, Hiram Allen, M. A. Allen, and Frank Allen, all of Winterset; and the daughter, Mrs. Hildebrand.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from Andersons home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. Wilbur Watkins, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial will be made in the McDonald cemetery, northeast of Winterset.
