Death of B. F. RAGAN

Benjamin F. Ragan died at his home in Winterset on Sunday at the age of 75 years. Mr. Ragan met with an accident on Feb. 7th, when he injured his hip in a fall, the shock greatly weakened him and his condition rapidly became critical.

Mr. Ragan came from Indiana to this county in 1867 and lived west of Winterset until his removal to town about eight years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Ragan celebrated their golden wedding last March. She with four sons and three daughters, remain to mourn his death.

Rev. M. M. Cable of Denison, assisted by Rev. Jackson Giddens, conducted funeral services on Tuesday at the Ragan home.

B. F. RAGAN - Mortuary

Benjamin Franklin Ragan was born in Shelby county, Kentucky, Aug 15, 1844. He was the son of William J. and Sarah Frances Ragan. His mother died when he was four years of age.

When he was seven years of age, they moved to Hendricks county, Indiana, where he lived until 1867, coming to Madison county, where he lived on a farm six miles west of Winterset. Eight years ago, he moved to the present home, where he passed away Feb. 15, 1920, age 75 years, 6 months.

He was married to Zillah Frances Darnall on March 4, 1868. To this union were born eight children: Mrs. Frank Brock of Winterset, George F. Ragan of Redfield, Mrs. Edwin Hoots of Winterset, Chas F. Ragan of St. Charles, Mrs. Ollie Gentry of Morgan, Minn.; Dr. Lawrence Ragan of Mitchellville, Benjamin C. Ragan, living on the old home place and William H. Ragan, who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Ragan celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary March 4, 1919. He was converted in Indiana Sept. 9, 1861 and attended White Lake Presbyterian church. At one time he was a member of West Star church and also the Church of Christ of Winterset.

There are left to mourn his loss, a wife, three daughters, four sons, 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, one brother, two half brothers and two half sisters, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Feb. 17, 1920 at the home, by Rev. Cable, assisted by Rev. Jackson Giddens.
