Death of ALEXANDER LORIMOR

The remains of Alexander Lorimor who died in the General hospital in Des Moines on Feb. 16, 1920 of pneumonia were brought to Winterset for burial. Services were held at the home of his niece, Mrs. Noah Benson on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. J. Stewart.

Mr. Lorimor, who was past 80 years of age, was born in Ohio, but spent his boyhood days near Winterset, leaving this county in young manhood to engage in silver mining in the west. He later became a mine inspector.

His death leaves but one of the twelve children of Benjamin Lorimor living, William, of Des Moines.

Mr. Lorimor will be well recalled by older residents of this vicinity, who knew him in his youth.

Alexander Lorimor

Alexander Lorimor was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, May 15, 1839, and died of pneumonia at Des Moines February 16, 1920 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 1 day old. He was one of twelve children of the late James Lorimor of Winterset. The only remaining member of the family is his brother William of Des Moines.

His early boyhood was spent with his parents on a farm near Winterset when a very young man he became one of the western pioneers engaging in silver mining business, in later years being an expert mine inspector.

He always lived near to nature, lived a clean pure life loved by all who came in contact with him. Children as well as old people were attracted by his personality and felt free to visit with him even though he was a stranger to them. The last three years of his life were spent at the home of his niece, Mrs. J. D. Young, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral was held at the home of his niece, Mrs. N. W. Benson at two o’clock Wednesday, Rev. Stewart, officiating. Burial was made in the Rock City cemetery.
