DEATH OF O. R. WILKINSON

Oscar R. Wilkinson, Winterset resident, died at his home here last Thursday noon, February 1st, after a short illness with pneumonia. Mr. Wilkinson, who was sixty-five years of age had always lived in this community. He was a son of John and Mary Wilkinson. For a number or years he engaged in ditch digging and the laying of tile.

He leaves his wife, who was the former Miss Jewel Martino and three children, Mrs. Glen Sherard, Alva and Blanche Wilkinson. The two daughters live in Winterset. He also leaves six brothers: William and Henry of Winterset, John Kale, Raleigh and Elmer Wilkinson of Des Moines, and two sisters Mrs. George Shoemaker of Winterset and Pearl Wilkinson of Des Moines.

Mrs. Ted Fitch of Des Moines conducted his funeral services which were held at the Tidrick funeral home, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Oscar Rufus Wilkinson

Oscar Rufus Wilkinson was born to John and Sarah Ellen Wilkinson October 1, 1869, and died at his home February 1, 1934 at the age of 65 years and 4 months.

He was born in Winterset, his parents moving to the farm when he was a baby, where he remained till he was a young man. He then spent several years in the blacksmith shop, leaving there on account of his health, and went to Colorado for a year. The rest of his life was spent in Winterset.

He was very kind and considerate of others, and was better known by the name of Shorty, which nickname he carried from childhood.

He was married to Julie Anna Martino and to this union were born four children, Mrs. Glenn Sherard, Alvie E. and Blanche in the home, one son preceding him in death.

Besides this he leaves six brothers and two sisters, being the first to die, John, Kale, Elmer and Pearl of Des Moines; Raleigh of Rockford, Illinois; and William, Henry and Mrs. George Shoemaker of Winterset. He also leaves eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Ted Fitch of Des Moines conducted the funeral service at the Tidrick funeral home Saturday afternoon, February 3 at 2:30 o'clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
