DEATH OF KATY DAVISSON.

Once more we are called upon to inform our readers of the death of another loved one. This time the victim of death is Miss Katy Davisson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Davisson, of this place. The deceased quietly passed this life Monday morning at 8 o’clock, after several months of suffering, caused by the combined effects of a bad cold and a severe fall, both of which were received less than a year ago. Katy was sixteen years of age the 30th day of last June; was just passing from an interesting and lovely girlhood to a noble and brilliant womanhood. She was beloved by all who knew her, none could say aught of Katy Davisson but kind words of praise and admiration. Her disposition was of that lovely kind, whose sensitiveness of other’s feelings was ever a source of happiness to all who claimed her companionship. She was kind, gentle, and in the social circles, of which she was among the foremost, her presence always inspired life and action. Her many young friends, who were her immediate associates, will perhaps feel her loss more acutely than any other of our citizens, as they were in a position best able to appreciate her good qualities.

Perhaps there has never been a death in Winterset so universally mourned as is this one. The deceased was known by everyone, loved by everyone – so universally as to be marked for its singularity. The entire community have but feelings of sympathy and sorrow for the bereaved family, who are deprived of a shining light and a noble heart so suddenly, and, until within the past few weeks, so unexpectedly.

The funeral was held at the home of the family on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. J. H. Potter officiating. The procession, which was one of the largest ever seen in this city, moved to the cemetery where the last remains, once so full of life and joy, but now cold and lifeless, was deposited in its last resting place. Many a silent but most expressive tear fell from overflowing eyes as the cold earth hid forever that once joyous and beaming countenance.
