George Righter Coutts, son of Dudly Coutts and Hanna Marie Green Coutts, was born in Waterloo, Iowa, July 19, 1903 and passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa March 3, 1979. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo and attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City.
On June 22, 1940 he was united in marriage to Betty Grace Knight. They made their home for several years in Des Moines before moving to St. Charles where they resided for twenty-five years before moving to West Des Moines in 1971.
Mr. Coutts was employed as a Field Agent for the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police before his retirement. While in St. Charles, he served on the Town Council, then was elected Mayor in which capacity he served for many years until ill health forced him to resign.
He was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Betty; a daughter, Dixie Lou Edwards of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Marguerite Sindlinger of Gary, Indiana; two half-brothers and three half-sisters.
Services were held Tuesday morning March 6 at McLarens Funeral Home in West Des Moines with burial in the St. Charles Cemetery.
