Holton J. McKinnie, Afton

Holton J. McKinnie, 84, of Afton, died Nov. 13, 2001, at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 16 at the Afton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joyce Smith officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Masonic rites were performed by the Creston Masonic Lodge 522 on Thursday, Nov. 15.

Holton McKinnie was born Aug. 27, 1917 in Union County to John H. and Emma (Holt) McKinnie. A 1935 graduate of Macksburg High School, he married Mildred Adamson on June 4, 1942 in rural Afton. He had been a lifetime farmer in Dodge township. Holten was a member of the Afton United Methodist Church, the Afton Masonic Lodge and the Creston Masonic Lodge. He also was active with many agricultural-related organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Afton; a daughter, Dr. Jean McKinnie Sanders of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, Scott McKinnie (wife Jeanne Ann) of Spokand, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Dollars for Scholars (for students interested in agriculture) or the Afton United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Powers Funeral Home in Afton.
