Eliza Parkins, wife of John Parkins, formerly of this place, died at Winterset, Iowa, May 22, 1904. She was 66 years of age.
Mrs. Parkins had been a sufferer for several years and for the past few months had been confined to the house. She was beloved by all who knew her as was demonstrated by the large circle of friends who attended her to her last resting place.
She leaves a husband and six children, five sons and one daughter to mourn her loss, who were all in attendance except one son Len who is in South Dakota. The funeral occurred from the N. R. U. B. church May 24th, conducted by Rev. Curtis of Van Meter. She was laid to rest in McDonald cemetery.

Eliza L. Parkins, nee Jones, was born in Belmont county, Ohio, January 30th, 1838, and died at Winterset, Iowa May 22, 1904. Her age was 66 years, 3 months and 23 days. The deceased was married to John Parkins in Belmont county, Ohio, May 28, 1857 and they have lived together as husband and wife for 47 years lacking 5 days. There was born to them eight children, seven boys and one girl. One of them John Anderson, died in infancy in Ohio and Clayton H. died when an infant, in 1865 in Story county, Iowa. The other children are living and are grown up to manhood and womanhood and all are married. All were present except one, Leonard, who is in North Dakota; to him the news of his mother’s death will soon be broken.
The records of the U. B. church that were kept by Rev. W. H. Manary show that John Parkins and Eliza Parkins united with the church on confession of faith in January, 1882, in a revival meeting at the Doak schoolhouse. Since that time she has lived a consistent life.
