William Spencer Robison

William Spencer Robison, familiarly known as "Billy" Robison, was born in Delaware county, June 1, 1853 and died at the Winterset hospital, Monday, January 15, 1934. For a long time he had not been well, but he endured his afflictions as became his spirit, without complaint and without murmuring. His serious illness had lasted but ten days, and heart affliction brought the end.

After their marriage they resided north of Winterset for a brief time while he broke the old home place out of virgin prairie. On the homestead two miles west of Pitzer they lived for thirty years, in 1904 moving to Dexter and in 1916 moving to Omaha.

Four children were born to this union, Clair William of Lewistown, Montana; Charles, who died in infancy, Grace Louise who died in 1908 and Frances who maintained a home for her father.

Two years ago, Mr. Robison with his daughter, moved to Winterset. The body was taken to Dexter and funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Presbyterian church at Dexter, the Rev. Wm. Youtsier officiating with the Masonic lodge in charge. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.

“Billy” Robison, for that’s how we who knew him and loved him, saluted him, was born in Delaware county, Iowa, June 1, 1853, and departed this life at the hospital in Winterset Monday, January 16, 1934.

For a long time he had not been well, but he endured his afflictions as became spirit—without complaint and without murmuring. His serious illness had endured but for ten days, and heart affliction brought the end.

When he was about 18 years of age he moved to the Winterset community with his parents. On March 4, 1874, he was married to Sarah Izabelle Guye, who died Jan. 25, 1924. After their marriage they resided north of Winterset for a brief time while he broke the old home place out of virgin prairie. On that homestead 9 miles south of Dexter, they lived for 30 years, in 1904 moving to Dexter and in 1916 moving to Omaha.

Four children came to make completely happy this union—Clair William, of Lewiston, Mont., Chas. Who died in infancy, Grace Louise who died in 1908, and Frances who maintained a home for her father.

Two years ago Mr. Robison, with his daughter, moved to Winterset and established the home amid the old familiar scenes and friendships.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Dexter Presbyterian church, Rev. Wm. Youtsler officiated, with the Masonic fraternity in charge. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.

Thus, too briefly, we speak the last word about a great soul. “Billy” Robison was a generous, kindly, sympathetic soul. The writer knew him well and loved him much. I’ve lost a true friend—Godspeed you, Billy!
