RICHARD JAMES McGRAW, Des Moines, Iowa

Richard “Dick” James McGraw, 75, died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Riverview Care Center. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 65 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery.

Richard was born July 20, 1932, in Corydon to Ernest and Wilma McGraw. He graduated from Corydon High School in 1950 and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Richard was an active member of the Masons, serving as a District Lecturer and Past Master of Model Lodge 315 in St. Charles. He was a former member of the East Gate Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.

Richard worked in the trucking industry for most of his life. He was one of the vice presidents of McMillian Oil Company and then retired as the safety director at Brooks Trucking. After retiring, Richard worked as the safety director at Keane Thummel Trucking.

Richard is survived by his wife, Wanda McGraw; children — Marilynn (Randy) Kint of St. Charles, Stephen (Pauline) McGraw of St. Marys, Richard (Mary) Aspensen of Nashville, Ind., and James (Pam) Ortiz, Toby (Cindy) Ortiz, Lonnie Ortiz and Tina McDivitt Ortiz, all of Des Moines; son-in-law, Ernest Rosendahl of Otho, Iowa; 34 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers Rex (Carol) McGraw of Allerton and Dwight (Donna) McGraw of Des Moines; a sister, Ernestine Messer of Prague, Okla.; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mardy McGraw; a daughter, Pat Rosendahl; a sister, Ila Kennedy; and a grandson, Bradley Aspensen.

Visitation was held at the funeral home from 5–7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
