KATIE NANNY SCAR

Katie Nanny Scar, daughter of Carl and Anna Clausen Schafer, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 1, 1896. She was baptized there in the Lutheran church. She attended school there for a short time and then moved with her parents to the Dexter vicinity and completed her education in the Madison county schools. She was confirmed in Zion Lutheran church, Dexter, on March 20, 1910.

On January 17, 1917, she was married to Charles Scar. Two children were born to this union. She lived with her husband on a farm in Madison county and upon his retirement moved to Dexter.

After a lingering illness, she passed away at the Villa West Care Center in Winterset on Thursday, December 16 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 15 days.

She is survived by her husband Charles, one son, Alvin, Dexter; one daughter, Lenore, Mrs. Eugene Martens, Dexter; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one sister, Nanny Fillman of Paton; and four brothers-Carl, Walter and Peter Schafer of Dexter and Herman Schafer of Earlham.

Memorial services were held on Sunday afternoon, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran church, Dexter, with the Rev. Norman Luecht officiating. Casket bearers were her five grandsons, Richard Scar, Robert Scar, Dennis Scar, David Scar, Steven Martens and one nephew, Carl Jobst.

Interment was in the Dexter cemetery under the direction of the McKee Funeral Home.
