LINNIE SHREVES DIES AT 89 YEARS

Mrs. Linnie Shreves of Indianola died last Wednesday July 1, at Gray's Nursing home in that community. She was 89 years of age.

Mrs. Shreves was a long-time resident of Warren and Polk counties. She was born at Sterling, Ill., on Jan. 18, 1881, a daughter of Lisbon and Liddy Beck Wick.

She graduated from Milo High school with the class of 1900, and from Simpson college in Indianola, and taught rural school for a number of years.

She was married June 19, 1911, to Samuel Shreves, at Laramie, Wyo.

She attended the Methodist church, and the Church of the Open Bible.

Her husband, Samuel, died in 1936. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Doris Cushing of Detroit, Mich., and Delmer R. Shreves and Arthur S. Shreves, both of St. Charles. She also leaves five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday from the United Methodist church of St. Charles, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. William Andre. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Linnie Wick Shreves

Linnie Wick Shreves, daughter of Lisbon Wick and Liddy Beck Wick was born January 18, 1881 in Sterling, White Side County, Illinois, and departed this life July 1, 1970, at Gray’s Nursing Home in Indianola, Iowa, at the age of 89 years.

She was educated in the Illinois and Missouri schools and graduated from Milo High School in 1900. She attended Simpson College where she received a teaching certificate and then taught in various country rural schools in Warren County.

She was united in marriage to Samuel Shreves on June 19, 1911, in Laramie, Wyoming and to this union three children were born, Doris Ethel, Delmar R., and Arthur S.

She lived in Laramie, Wyoming four years, then came to the family farm in St. Charles, then moving to Martensdale until 1934 when they moved to Des Moines. While in Des Moines her health failed and she came back to St. Charles.

Her life was surrounded by many youth which she enjoyed throughout her life.

She attended Wick Methodist Church, the Martensdale Community Church and The church of The Open Bible in Des Moines.

She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Doris Ethel Cushing, Birmingham, Michigan; two sons, Delmar R. and Arthur S., of St. Charles; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one nephew, Clovis Smith, of Des Moines, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Samuel, in 1936; one brother, Cecil Wick; and one sister, Verde Smith.

Funeral Services were held at the United Methodist Church at St. Charles at 2:00 p.m. July 3, 1970, with Rev. William Andre officiating.
