Mr. Abbott was one of a family of nine children, two of whom are still living. He grew to manhood in Ohio and came to Madison county in March, 1873. Here he made his home until 1910, when he moved with his family to Dawson, North Dakota, where he passed away at his home.

In 1871, Mr. Abbott was married to Miss Rebecca Denny, who preceded him in death in 1892. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Ida Smith of Panora, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Ratlez of Los Angeles, and J. P. Abbott of Great Falls, Montana.

In 1902 Mr. Abbott was married to Miss Cora Barker, who with two sons, Paul J. and John S., are left in the home. With these are left to mourn his loss: one brother, John Abbott, one sister, Mrs. Emily Prine, both of Macksburg; eight grandchildren; one uncle, Mr. Cass Pindell, of Macksburg and a number of other relatives and friends in Madison county.

Along in middle life Mr. Abbott was converted and joined the M.E. church. He was one of the leaders in establishing Wesley Chapel M.E. church northwest of Macksburg. While in Macksburg he was active in the M.E. church and when he moved away he took his letter to Dawson with him, where he remained a member of the M.E. church until his death. Memorial services were conducted in his church for him last Saturday, January 22nd.
