Former County Supervisor Dies After Week's Illness in Des Moines
Clark S. Wilson, prominent farmer of Webster township for many years, died at the General hospital in Des Moines on last Saturday after an illness of less than a week.
Mr. Wilson, who retired from farming a few years ago, had been in failing health during the past year. On Monday of last week he was taken to Des Moines where his condition was found to be serious and too advanced to warrant an operation.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson began housekeeping in Webster township more than 40 years ago. Here they reared a family of twelve children, improved a farm where they resided until advancing years forced retirement from active work.
Mr. Wilson was active in the religious work of his community and also took an active part in county and township affairs. In 1897 he was elected member of the board of supervisors and was reelected in 1900 rendering a high degree of public service to the county for a period of six years.
He was universally respected as a man of high character and unselfish purposes.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton and Rev. McFarlon of Allerton. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Page 5Clark S. Wilson was born in Centerburg, Knox county, Ohio, April 30th, 1852, and passed away January 22nd, 1927 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 22 days. In 1871 he was married to Anna Mary Butler, who passed away in June 1875. To this union was born one son, Leslie Wilson, who now resides at Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. In September 1876 he was united in marriage to Ida Mary Hall of North English, Iowa. To this union were born eleven children, all of whom are now living. The children are: Mrs. Walter Huston of Valley Junction, Ray Wilson of Webster township, Mrs. Clarence Tidrick, Rollie, Eldon and Carl Wilson, all of Winterset, Mrs. Ora Brady of Macksburg, Verne Wilson, Mrs. Claude Fuson and Mrs. Lee Kingery of Kimball, South Dakota, and Roy F. Wilson of Bison, South Dakota.
Mr. Wilson moved to Madison county in the year 1885 and resided on a farm in Webster township until the year 1921, when he moved to Winterset. Not long after coming to Madison county he was converted and joined the Oak Grove Evangelical church and has always lived a true, Christian life. His testimony was that he was sanctified in 1908. When moving to Winterset he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and remained a faithful member to the last. During the past year he had been failing in health and since the first of the year failed rapidly.
Monday, January 17th, he was taken to a hospital in Des Moines. He was a patient sufferer and remained conscious until the last, remarking that Jesus was by his side and he had no fear of death. His wife and all the children except those living at a distance were at his bedside when he passed away to meet his Saviour. He was a loving husband, a kind father, and a true and faithful friend. Besides his wife and twelve children, he leaves 33 grandchildren and one great grandchild, four brothers, and four sisters, and a host of sympathetic friends to mourn his loss.
