W. Ray Hirsch, Dexter

W. Ray Hirsch, 76, of Dexter, died from complications of a stroke Oct. 31, 2000 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 5 at Penn Center United Methodist Church of rural Dexter with the Revs. Albert Ervin and Robert Farr officiating. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery.

Ray Hirsch wa born June 23, 1924 in Des Moines to Walter and Madge (Garton) Hirsch. A 1942 graduate of North High School in Des Moines he also was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard. He married Lena Brown on June 9, 1945. Ray worked as a meat cutter, carpenter and aluminum awning manufacturing manager in Des Moines, Indiana and Wisconsin. He moved back to Iowa in 1954 and farmed in the Bondurant, St. Charles and Patterson areas before moving to Dexter in 1963.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Trudy Duncan (husband John) of Hawaii; a son, Mark (wife Tricia) of Dexter; a sister, Violet Williamson of St. Charles; a brother, Paul Hirsch of Boone; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes in Dexter and Earlham.
