Wednesday, September 30, 1970WILMER HENSON DIED SATURDAY
Wilmer R. Henson of Winterset, a resident of this community for 50 years, died Saturday, Sept. 26, at Veterans' hospital in Des Moines. His death followed an extended illness. He was 57 years of age.
Mr. Henson was a native of Gallatin, Mo., where he was born July 3, 1913, a son of LeRoi and Mary Jane Tribby Henson. He was brought to Madison county when he was about 7 years of age.
In early life he worked as a farmer and butcher. In later years he followed the trade of cabinet maker.
He served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Zion Federated church.
He was married March 3, 1937, to Irene E. Hooper of Winterset, who survives him. He also leaves his mother, who is now Mrs. Mollie Harrell of Winterset.
Other survivors include the following children: Mrs. Mary Fern Nuzum, Robert Henson, Mrs. Marjorie Baker, all of Winterset, Mrs. Rose M. Taylor of Des Moines, Mrs. Elizabeth McCullough of Kansas City, Mo., and Don C. Henson, U.S. army, of Ft. Polk, La. He also leaves 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Henson of Omaha and Lewis Harrell of New Providence, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Callie Jamison of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. E. E. Jandebeur, pastor of the First Christian church, and by John Safford. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with military honors at the graveside by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
