Wednesday, June 13, 1917Mrs. W. H. McGinnis
Mrs. Melinda Virginia McGinnis was born February 20, 1852 in McDonough county, Illinois, where she spent her childhood. When about twenty years of age she moved with her father to Winterset, Iowa, where on December 1, 1885 she was united in marriage to W. H. McGinnis. They walked life's pathway together until September 22, 1915 when Mr. McGinnis died and went on before, his wife remaining in the family residence on West Buchanan street until the morning of June 11 when she left her earthly home for a Heavenly one.
When nineteen years of age she was converted and united with the Methodist church, being a faithful, devoted and loyal member during all these years. She was also a member of the Womans Relief Corps.
She leaves to mourn her loss, a step-son, B. A. McGinnis, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Fannie McDonald and four brothers, two living in Kansas, one in Omaha and one in Des Moines.
Mrs. McGinnis will be missed in the church, in the Bible class, in the W.R.C. and by all who knew her, for she was always ready to do her part and to do it well, and her integrity of character and Christian influence will be an incentive to all who associated with her, to a better and nobler purpose and life.
The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, at the M. E. church and interment in the Rock City cemetery.
________________________Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published, the deceased went by the nickname "Jennie" as seen on her gravestone which also shows that her married name was "McGinness". Her maiden name was taken from the marriage record of her daughter, Fannie McGinness.
