LILLIAN H. SMITH DIES AT 86 YEARS

Mrs. Lillian H. Smith, a resident of Winterset most of her life, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, at a nursing home in Indianola. She was 86 years of age.

Mrs. Smith was the former Lillian Rhoda Henderson, daughter of William R. and Dora Moore Henderson, and was born at Clearfield July 22, 1884. She moved to Winterset with her family in 1900. With the exception of a few years in Minnesota and Texas, this community continued as her home during her life-time.

She was married to William N. Smith on Dec. 24, 1906. They were parents of a son, Kenneth Smith, of Indianola.

She was employed, for many years, as a clerk in millinery and dry goods stores.

She became a member of the United Presbyterian church in Clearfield when she was 12 years old, and remained active in the church during her life-time. She served as a Sunday school Superintendent for many years, was an officer of the Des Moines presbytery, and held other offices. She was a delegate to two national W.G.M.S. conventions, and attended others. She was a member and officer of Crown Rebeka lodge of Winterset for 53 years.

She is survived by the son, Kenneth Smith of Indianola; one grandson, Richard K. Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. R. S. Chapman of Beverly Hills, Calif.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, with burial in the Winterset cemetery.
