Elijah Joshua, son of Elijah Joshua and Francis Emaline Smith, was born March 25, 1859 in Marion County, Iowa and died at his home near Lorimor, February 25, 1923.

His early life was spent in Marion county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

In the year of 1882 he was united in marriage to Melvina Kingery who preceded him in death. To this union was born two children, Charles of Lorimor and Della Jones who preceded him in death.

He the year of 1916 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Hannah Courtney of Lorimor who survives him.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and lived in that faith until the last. He was a kind and loving husband and father and ever ready to lend a helping hand.

He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, Hannah Smith, one son, Charles Smith, one step daughter, Mrs. Bessie Hendrick, three step sons, Ray, William and Earl Courtney; eight grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, John Smith, H. A. Smith, Andrew Smith, Mrs. Martha Chenoweth, Mrs. Amanda Cook, all of Lorimor, and Mrs. James Berry of Huntsville, Missouri and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held on Monday and interment was made in the cemetery at Fellowship.
