DEATHS

McKnight--Died, of typhoid pneumonia, February 14, 1880, at the residence of her son, W. W. McKnight, of Winterset, Mrs. Anna McKnight, in the 79th year of her age.

She was born in Franklin county, Kentucky, August 27, 1801. She removed to Indiana when about ten years of age, and spent most of her long life-time in that State. She united with the Presbyterian church when about 17 years of age, and was married in 1819. Her husband, Mr. Robert R. McKnight, died in 1852, leaving her a widow nearly twenty-eight years. She was the mother of three children, whom she brought up in the faith of the Gospel. Only one of them survives her.

Mrs. McKnight was a woman of decided character. She had clear perceptions of truth and duty, was strictly conscientious, and could not be swayed from her convictions of right. She was well instructed in the great truths of the Gospel, and in the doctrines, worship, and practice of the Church of her choice, to which she was most devotedly attached. She highly prized the sanctuary, and diligently attended the services of the house of God. Her declining years, her enfeebled step and delicate health but rarely kept her from the place of worship on God's holy day, thus setting a worthy example to many in young life. She greatly enjoyed the meetings for prayer and conference, and engaged heartily as a member of our Normal class, taking part in the discussions. She expressed regret at not being able to attend the services of the last communion at her Church, which took place while she was lying on her death-bed. Her faith in the Savior seemed to have no eclipse. The evening before she died she expressed the most unwavering confidence and implicit trust in her Redeemer. After engaging in prayer with her she repeated to her paster two verses of the hymn ending--
"The sure foundation of my hope
Is in the Savior's blood."

She could have no better foundation to build a hope upon. She is doubtless now enjoying the rest that remaineth for the people of God.

J. H. Potter.

Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
