MEMORIAL TO LAURA COMPTON

Laura Compton, wife of S. G. Compton, and daughter of Levi and Huldair Ballard, passed from earth Feb. 2 1891. She was born in Marion Co., Indiana Jan. 30th, 1856 and was thirty-five years and two days old at the time of her death. Her parents removed to Iowa with her in year she was born, and here she has since made her home. She was married to Stephen G. Compton Dec. 29th, 1876, and to them were born four children, two sons and two daughter, all living to mourn her loss.

She was a dutiful child, a loving wife and mother, a good, kind neighbor, and will be sadly missed in her home and father’s house, by her brother and three sisters, and also by her husband’s relatives, by whom she was fondly loved.

She lived in the triumph of faith in Christ; bidding goodbye to her husband, children, and all her relatives who were present; embracing and kissing each one and giving them a few words of council and asking them to meet her in Heaven.

Services were held at the Friend’s church, of which she was a member, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, others participating. Notwithstanding the severly cold weather the house was crowded by friends, anxious to pay the last tribute of respect and love for the departed, sad evidence their appreciation of the sweet and pure life thus early brought to a close. A large number followed the remains to the Earlham cemetery where the final farewell was taken.
