1897Mary Jane Hanks was born in M--- county October 17th 1829, removed to Iowa and settled with her parents in Henry county in 1851. Was united in marriage with David Hockett September 16th 1852. To whom five children were born three of whom- J. W. and S. D. Hockett and Nannie King with an adopted daughter Mrs. P. L. Brown, of Denova remains with the father to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother.
She embraced the Christian religion and by a Godly life and unassuming manner always filled to make the burdens of “others” brighter by her labors.
In failing health for a number of years, she has cheerfully and patiently borne all often expressing confidence in the blood of her Savior and quietly fell asleep in Him.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Samuel Hockett at the Friends church on last Friday at 11 a.m.

Page 3Mrs. David Hockett living north of town died very suddenly Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held Friday morning, from the Friends church. After which the interment took place at the Earlham cemetery.
Mrs. Hockett was one of our earliest settlers here and was well and favorably known in this vicinity. She leaves a husband and three children, besides a host of friends to mourn her loss.
