May 1912Lizzie Wiggins Hillan was born at New Hampton, New Hampshire, July 5th, 1854 and died at her home in Earlham, Iowa, May 26th, 1912. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1869 and has since made Madison County her home.
She was married January 1, 1872 to Mark Campbell Hillan, who with her four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence McBride, of Lake Arthur, New Mexico, Sarah, Margaret and Eva, of Earlham survive.
Although the suffering in the past three years had been great she bore it uncomplainingly but was ready to lay down the burdens and cares of this life and take up the crown of glory and meet the dear ones who had gone before her to the better land.

1912The sudden death of Mrs. M. C. Hillan Sunday evening brought sadness to an Earlham home and many friends of the family. Mrs. Hillan had retired for the evening without indicating any serious illness and the family were not forewarned of her labored breathing, nor of her condition. The physician was summoned, but before his arrival Mrs. Hillan had expired, apoplexy being the cause of her death.
The funeral will be held at ten o’clock Friday forenoon at the home, Rev. Elliott a Christian minister from Des Moines to have charge of the services.
