Our Chip-Basket

Mr. Nathan Newlon, father of W. C. Newlon, of the City, died last week at his home, two miles east of town. Mr. Newlon was one of Madison County's oldest and most respected citizens. He came here at an early day, when the inhabitants of the county could be numbered only by the score, and by strict attention to his farm he succeeded in amassing a goodly amount of earthly goods, which he lived to enjoy to a ripe old age. His many pioneer friends feel the loss of him from their ranks very greatly, as he was always known as an honorable, industrious and generous hearted citizen and neighbor.

(Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery)
